A group of North Korean officials are inspecting a joint industrial park with South
Korea in the communist state this week, Yonhap News said Tuesday. It may raise
concerns that Pyongyang may be moving to restrict border access to the area, the
agency said.
The inspection, which began Monday on an abrupt notice, was reminiscent of a
similar visit in December 2008, Yonhap quoted a Seoul official as saying. Six days
later, the communist state began to temporarily ban South Korean access to the park in its border town of Kaesong.
Eight North Korean officials, including a policy director of the National Defense
Commission, the highest seat of power, were in the Kaesong park for the second day Tuesday, South Korean Unification Ministry officials said, asking not to be named citing policy.
The North Koreans visited three South Korean companies and a sewage plant on
Monday. They said they would conduct the inspection for two to three days, the
officials said.
