South Korea has expressed deep regret over North Korea’s threat to take “decisive measures” if the South continues what Pyongyang is calling an “anti-North Korean propaganda campaign.”
A Defense Ministry official in Seoul said the South sent a message to the North via the military communication lines on the border Monday morning expressing its discontent with the move by Pyongyang.
On Saturday, North Korea threatened to consider shutting down overland passage across the border to and from the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex and Mount Geumgang if the so-called “propaganda” continues.
The South said that overland passage between the two Koreas to Gaeseong and Mount Geumgang is unrelated to Pyongyang’s claims.
It also stressed that North Korea will have to take all responsibility if it breaches an agreement on inter-Korean crossings.
Seoul said it respects inter-Korean agreements on the suspension of propaganda activities. It added that it has asked civilian human rights organizations not to spread anti-North Korean leaflets.
